Why I launched the Health Care Transformation Hub

Two opposing statements about the U.S. health system are true: It is highly complex and it offers the best care in the world.
I’ve seen the truth behind each of these statements throughout my 30-year career in medicine, particularly as a practicing emergency medicine physician.
The U.S. is the undisputed leader when it comes to scientific advancements and biomedical research. We have access to the best treatments in the world, the most advanced specialty care and cutting-edge equipment and technology. Our clinical workforce is unmatched and our care delivery processes are documented as leading the globe (among the best in the world).
And yet, the U.S. ranks last compared to other peer countries when it comes to population wide health outcomes, access to care and administrative efficiency, all while spending considerably more. People die younger and have more avoidable deaths at twice the cost.
Quite simply, the health system is underperforming, and it has been for some time.
There are many ideas about how to fix it. We need to focus on the ones that are rooted in evidence. That is why I launched the Health Care Transformation Hub, with two primary objectives:
- Convene thought leaders and elevate insights from some of the top minds in health care to develop new and innovative ways to deliver patient care.
- Promote evidence-based research and elevate insights from top researchers to help build a better health system.
We have the resources and the expertise to make the health system better. If we can channel that energy and stay grounded in what the evidence tells us, I believe we can make meaningful changes to a system that has been a source of frustration for many.
We will be routinely posting research, convening conversations and working to deliver a better, more cohesive system. You can follow along here or on our LinkedIn page.
I invite you to join me in that endeavor. Together, I’m hopeful we can write a new chapter for the U.S. health system.
